Mark Kindl

Dr. Kindl came to work for the Information Technology and Telecommunications Laboratory of Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) as a Principal Research Scientist in 2000, after retiring from the U.S. Army at the rank of Colonel. In September 2002, he and a small team of GTRI engineers began the analysis, design, and associated coordination with the Global XML Structure Task Force (XSTF) which has led to the current implementation of the Global Justice XML Data Model and Dictionary. His other GTRI work has included applied research in knowledge management and intelligent systems, and the development of concepts and special software tools for archival management of electronic records for the National Archives. Dr. Kindl was also a member of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board 2002 Summer Study on Predictive Battlespace Awareness. While on active duty in the Army Research Laboratory, he helped to develop the data model and baseline requirements for electronic records management for Department of Defense (DoD). He also led an applied research program that developed an Army Data Dictionary support tool that was later adopted by DoD. Dr. Kindl is a 1974 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, and received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1983 and 1991 respectively.
